I make very small lines to mark my measurements (sometimes just dots) and then circle them so that I can easily find them on the wood. I find that my cuts are much more precise if I make very small measurement lines. To cut exactly along my line, I need to make two marks, ideally each at opposite ends of the piece I’m cutting.
